BIOGRAPHY

GRZEGORZ OLKIEWICZ was born in Katowice (Poland) in 1959. There he completed his studies at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music where he attendend a class of the eminent professor Stanislaw Michalik. He continued the development of his skills in the masterclasses of A. Bourek at the L. Janacek Academy of Music in Brno (Czechoslovakia) and of S. Gazzelloni at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena (Italy). Three times he received grants from the Ministry of Arts and Culture. Music critics very early recognised him as outstanding flutist. In a sense it has affected his future career. He was the first flutist of the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra in Katowice and of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra (Egypt) and Sinfonia Helvetica.
GRZEGORZ OLKIEWICZ has played with most of the polish orchestras and performed in following countries recitals and concerts with chamber & symphony orchestras: Austria, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Danmark, Egypt, France, England, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA. Many polish composers have dedicated him their compositions. Grzegorz Olkiewicz together with A. Bauer - cello and W. Malicki - piano formed The Polish Trio ensamble. Recordings of flute sonastas by J.S. Bach and G. Ph. Haendel gained the title of the Best Radio Recordings of Classic Music 1983. The Artist has about 50 hours of recordings for Polish Radio and TV with numerous orchestras and with Polish Trio as well as a soloist. He has cooperated with records producers namely Polish Recordings, Polish Records Edition, Pony Canyon - Japan, Paulite Edition - Vatican, Karussel - Germany, Koch International - Poland, Musicon - Poland, Capstone Records - USA, Sonoris Records - USA. In 1993 he was invited to participate in First European Flute Festival in Frankfurt am Main and Amarican Flute Congress in New York 1996. Apart of this activities he conducts masterclasses in Poland and abroad. He was a professor of flute in Conservatoire de Musique - Academy of Arts in Cairo (Egypt). At the moment he directs a flute class at the Karol Lipinski Academy of Music in Wroclaw (Poland). He conducts flute masterclasses in many european countries. His name as an artist is associated not only with concert halls but he is well known as an author an broadcaster in Polish Radio an TV, popularizing history and playing on the wind instruments. He is active as a conductor, too. He is frequently a jury member of wood wind instruments competitions. In January 1994 GRZEGORZ OLKIEWICZ was appointed a President of the Polish Flutists Association.

In 2011he received title Merited to Polish Culture.

He is honorary member of Polish Doublebass Society and Foundation of Nikolaus of Radom.
